When I first saw Glock pistols, in a gun shop at the range, I thought they were the ugliest guns I had ever seen. I swore I would never own one because of that. Well, now I own two. This is only because of the recommendations of a retired Henrico county police officer, Sam Stevenson, who told me of Glock's quality and how well they shoot. Sam said that of the various pistols issued to him by the department over the years, including Sig Sauers, the Glock .45 was his favorite. Mine are 9mms but I have found that they make up for their ugliness in their functionality. So I have devoted this entire page to Glock Pistols.
First of all, the pistols are truly ugly. No one can fault me for this observation. I like to be able to look at guns, them being intricate artworks of human ingenuity and manufacturing mastery. The other pistols I have, revolvers or automatics, are stainless steal and look very nice so when I can't get out to the range I can look at them. I guess you have to grow to love the appearance.
I bought the Glocks as carry pistols and have found them to do exactly what they were designed for, and very well. I have not had any of my Glocks jam due to mechanical malfunction, even using reloads. The times my 26 jammed were because I was not holding the pistol correctly due to the small stock. The first time, the slide raked across the space between my first finger and my thumb, cutting me, which slowed it down and would not allow the slide to function properly, operator error. The second time, it jammed on my sister. We figured out that the jam was caused by her limp wrist which did not allow the pistol to cycle properly. I know this because she jammed my other Glocks also, and a pistol of another brand. She has not jammed any of the pistols since she realized her problem and worked to correct it.
I have just shot in my first GSSF match. I can't say that it was the best time I've had on the range, but I can't complain. Dave, a Glock friend, and I had to wait a while for our turns on the range. I did find a place to practice though. It cost 1.00 per clip, which I thought was reasonable. I feel like I did pretty good but I can't figure that I won since there was a troop of Marines from Quantico there, the Marine Pistol Team, and I also saw some other fellows who could pull off shots that sounded closer to a machine gun than a semi-automatic pistol. Dave did not do very well on at least one of the ranges, the Glock Plates, where you have to shoot down 6 metal plates in as little time as possible. He thinks he did well in the other 2 ranges. I can't hold the first one against him, he's only had his Glock for a week. He just bought a Glock 22, .40 caliber. I think he will do better as we practice more. And don't forget to properly lubricate your Glock. (Courtesy of GlockMeister) A gun that doesn't function when you need it most can mean the difference between life and death, your life and death.
Anyway, there are lots of Glock links out there and I will supply a few of them.
